Glenn Myers, age 101, of Valley City, ND died Thursday, Dec. 17th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City with Rev. Dan Bader officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4PM until 7 PM with A Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery later in the spring.
Glenn Alvin Myers was born Aug. 12, 1908 in Edna Township of Barnes County, North Dakota the son of Hugh and Amelia (Rehse) Myers. He grew up on a farm in Edna Township and attended rural school. Following his education he farmed with his father on the farm. On November 23, 1936 he was united in marriage with Lila Kurtti at Moorhead, MN. The couple made their home in Minnesota for two years before returning to North Dakota where Glenn farmed near Spiritwood, ND. In 1942 the couple returned to Edna Township and farmed there until retiring. In 1975 Glenn and Lila moved to Valley City.
Glenn was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City, A.F. & A.M. Lodge #7, served on the church board, Edna Township Board, the Leal Cemetery Board, North Central School Board, and was a Barnes County Commissioner. He loved to garden and do woodworking. Glenn also loved to play cards but he most loved just spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lila; a son Curtis (Betty) Myers, Sun City, AZ; a daughter, Gloria (Myron) Ochsner, Minot, ND; a daughter-in-law, Janice Myers, Jamestown, ND; a son-in-law, R.J. Christensen, Fargo, ND; a sister, Phyllis Christensen, Centuria, WI; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Alvin Myers, a daughter Deloris “Susie” Christensen, 5 brothers, and a sister.
