Georgia Norton, 89, New Rockford, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Georgia Belle Byrum was born Sept. 4, 1920, on a farm south of New Rockford, the daughter of Hazel and Bertha (Zimmerman) Byrum. She grew up there and attended school in New Rockford. On Sept. 24, 1938, she married Everett Norton at Grafton, N.D. They lived and farmed northeast of New Rockford in Superior Township in Eddy County. They retired from farming in 1976 and moved to New Rockford. She worked in the kitchen at New Rockford Public School for several years. He died May 7, 1995. She lived at Westview Apartments, New Rockford, until January 2006, when she entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. She sat on election boards for several years. She enjoyed embroidery work and cooking.
She is survived by five sons, David (Pat) Mundelein, Ill., Paul (Joeann), Granite Falls, Wash., Larry (Barb), Edmonds, Wash., Bob (Alice), Carrington, N.D., and Don (Sharon), New Rockford; two daughters, Marlene Scott, Maddock, N.D., and Diana (Bill) Ziegler, New Rockford; a sister-in-law, Maxine Byrum, New Rockford; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, William; two brothers, Everett “Bud” and Ralph “Barney”; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, United Methodist Church, New Rockford, with the Rev. Dale Emery officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. today, Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Chapel, New Rockford.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
