Staples, Frank Manley, Age 87, born September 22, 1922, Osceola, Wisconsin, son of Rowena “Rene” and George Staples, passed away January 1, 2010. Frank is survived by Evangeline “Joyce” Staples wife of 62 years, sons Alan and David Staples, daughter Cynthia Poulton, and grandchildren Bryce and Kyle Poulton and Matthew and Jack Staples. Frank grew up in central North Dakota where he began a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Graduating from Jamestown High School, he first served as a pipe fitter in the Bremerton shipyards repairing the ships damaged at Pearl Harbor before being allowed to enlist in the Army in 1944. Frank fought with the 89th Infantry Division, 314th Engineer Combat Battalion, in the Rhineland campaign during WWII. After returning home Frank married Joyce on October 31, 1947. He graduated Jamestown College and first worked for Ottertail Power before beginning a 31 year career as a production engineer with Honeywell in the Twin Cities. In retirement Frank pursued his passion for making jewelry and rock collecting along with Joyce. They traveled with grandchildren throughout the US. He was an avid reader and grew orchids and violets. For many years the family took an annual fishing trip in Northern Minnesota. Frank was a lifelong Mason and member of the Eastern Star. By all that life can be measured his was a success. And of all that can be said, what is said best is that Frank was an honorable and caring man and a devoted, husband, father and grandfather. The family had a private memorial service at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home before internment at Ft. Snelling Cemetery on January 5th. Memorials preferred to The Nature Conservancy. He was loved by his family and will be missed dearly.
