Elizabeth “Betty” Bauer, 89, Grand Forks, N.D., formerly of Jamestown

Elizabeth “Betty” Bauer, 89, Grand Forks, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Elizabeth Ann Kiner was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Coroda and Margaret (Fay) Kiner. At the age of 13, her family moved to Jamestown. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938 and attended the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn. She returned to Jamestown and worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. She married Kenneth Bauer on June 14, 1947, at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. They lived in Fargo, Garrison, N.D., and Bottineau, N.D., and then moved to Grand Forks in 1966. He died July 17, 1998. She worked for Norby’s Department Store, Grand Forks, until she retired in 1985. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks.

She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Caley, Concord, Calif., Mary Bauer Morley (Michael Boger) Grand Forks, and Amy Bauer (Brett) Lee, Farmington, Minn.; three sons, Kenneth C. (Abby), Clinton Township, Mich., Paul (Vicki), Watford City, N.D., and Peter (Deb), Fortworth, Texas; a sister, Donna McDonald; a sister-in-law, Marty Bauer; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a grandson, Jackson Bauer Lee.

Services: 1 p.m. today, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. today, preceded by a 4:30 p.m. rosary service, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, Grand Forks.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and one hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, in the spring.
