Helen L. Matson, 89, of Detroit Lakes, MN died Saturday April 24, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the nursing home on Wednesday. A luncheon will be held at the Emmanuel Nursing Home following the funeral service for all to attend. Interment will be made in Chilton Cemetery. Casketbearers will be: Joshua Thorsvig, Tyrel Mischke, Tom Schielke, Grace Matson, Jesse Trusty, Gary Wood, Bonnie Schielke, & Dale Matson. Honorary casketbearers will be: Ron Frey, Roger Engstrom, Clem Niesen & Jerry Cleveland. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Furey Funeral Home. Helen Lorraine Matson was born August 29, 1920 to John and Amanda (Keller) Wood in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Helen is survived by 6 children: Laura (Jerry) Smith of Vida, OR, Dale (Grace) Matson of Frazee, Fern Schurdevin (Ron Burg) of Vergas, Kristi (Kelly) Ruud of Twin Valley, MN, Lilly (Jeff) Romberg of Lake Park, MN, & Bonnie (Tom) Schielke of Jamestown, ND; 12 grandchildren;13 great grandchildren; and 2 daughters-in-law, Julie Matson of Frazee and Irene Matson of Frazee; and cousin, Marlyn (Kenneth) Wegenke of Jamestown, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; 2 sons: John & Warren; 1 grandson, Billy Schurdevin; and one brother, Jack Wood.
