Esther Groettum, 89, Jamestown, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Esther Essig was born July 23, 1920, two miles south of Medina, N.D., the daughter of Christian G. and Nettie (Schneider) Essig. She grew up and received her education in Medina. She married Leonard Groettum on Aug. 14, 1942, in Jamestown. They farmed in Medina and later in Eldridge, N.D. In 1953, they moved to Jamestown where she worked at Hi-Acres Manor. He died in 1985. She moved into the Gardenette Apartments. She worked in the Gardenette kitchen until 2008, when she moved to Rock of Ages due to health reasons.
She is survived by a brother, Douglas (Diane), Shevlin, Minn., and a sister-in-law, Viola Essig, Shevlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and a sister-in-law.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Wayne Bangs officiating.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina.
