Allen Larson
Allen “Al” Jerome Larson, 70, Carrington, N.D., died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at his home under the care of Presentation Hospice following a battle with cancer. Mr. Larson was born on July 12, 1939, in Nome, N.D., the son of Amund and Gertha (Thorstenson) Larson.

Allen “Al” Jerome Larson, 70, Carrington, N.D., died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at his home under the care of Presentation Hospice following a battle with cancer.
Mr. Larson was born on July 12, 1939, in Nome, N.D., the son of Amund and Gertha (Thorstenson) Larson. He grew up and attended school in Kathryn, N.D., graduating from high school in 1957. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He married Dianne Pederson on June 12, 1960, at Kathryn. He graduated from Valley City (N.D.) State University with a teaching and coaching degree. At VCSU he participated in football, wrestling and track. He was a three-time college wrestling State Champion. He earned master’s degrees in physical education, botany and educational administration. They lived in Rogers, N.D., where he taught and coached. They moved to Carrington in 1964. He worked for Carrington schools for 33 years. He taught science and physical education for 11 years. He became high school principal and athletic director in 1975. He retired in 1998. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, honorary lifetime member of the Carrington Chamber of Commerce, and a member and officer in the statewide principal board. He was a charter member of the Carrington sports boosters club. He was president of the Carrington Golf Club and held offices in the Carrington Lions Club. He received numerous Hall of Fame inductions for his sports involvement. He enjoyed coaching sports, working as a referee and radio sports broadcaster and traveling.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Cindy (Randy) Running, Wilmington, Ohio, Patricia (Dave) Christen, Grand Forks, N.D., and Nancy (Tim) Pinke, St. James, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, with the Rev. Bruce Vold officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m., Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery
