Lyla Jystad, 83, Rochester, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Sunrise Cottages, Rochester. Lyla June Larson was born March 7, 1927, in Wanamingo, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Esther (Boraas) Larson.

Lyla Jystad, 83, Rochester, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Sunrise Cottages, Rochester.

Lyla June Larson was born March 7, 1927, in Wanamingo, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Esther (Boraas) Larson. She grew up in Wanamingo. She completed high school. In 1949, she graduated from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minn., earning Bachelor of Arts degrees in music, education and biology. She taught for two years in Evansville, Minn., and for two years at Groveland Elementary School, Minnetonka, Minn. She married Torgney Jystad on Aug. 25, 1951. They lived in Eagle Bend, Minn., where he pastored. They served many parishes, including Christ the King Lutheran, Moorhead, Minn., Bethlehem Lutheran, Ulen, Minn., and Faith Lutheran, Delavan, Minn. They retired and moved near Ulen. He died in 2000. She moved in 2001 to Dilworth, Minn., and in 2008 to Fairmont (Minn.) Care Center, Eventide, Moorhead, and Sunrise Cottages, Rochester. She worked with the Foster Grandparents Program at Dilworth Elementary School. She taught Bible and Sunday schools, directed church choirs, taught piano lessons and played for events. She enjoyed cooking.

She is survived by three sons, John, Minneapolis, Dr. Philip (Shelly), Jamestown, and Steve (Sue), Zumbrota, Minn.; a daughter, Ellen (Bryan) Green, Dilworth; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mary Esther; her parents; a sister, Ellen Ione; and a brother, Ted.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Visitation: 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, Minn.

Burial: Bethlehem North Cemetery, Ulen.
