Frieda Rau

Frieda Bertha Rau, 90, Napoleon, N.D., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon. Frieda Opp was born Dec. 12, 1919, at Hazelton, N.D., the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Himmerich) Opp. She attended the rural school near her parents’ farm southwest of Streeter.

Frieda Bertha Rau, 90, Napoleon, N.D., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon.

Frieda Opp was born Dec. 12, 1919, at Hazelton, N.D., the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Himmerich) Opp. She attended the rural school near her parents’ farm southwest of Streeter. She married Reinhold Rau on Oct. 23, 1938, near Streeter. They farmed four miles north of Napoleon for six years. In 1945 they purchased and moved to a farm one mile west of Streeter. He died in 1992. She lived on the farm, then moved to Streeter, and then to Napoleon. She entered the Napoleon Care Center in 2004. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Streeter, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Ladies Aid and Streeter Senior Center.

She is survived by a son, Clinton (Bernice), Arvada, Colo.; two daughters, JoAnn (Leroy) Wieland, Streeter, and Norma (Gary) Nelson, Williston, N.D.; two brothers, Reinhold (Esther), Napoleon, and Arthur (Alice), Medina, N.D., a sister-in-law, Genevieve Opp, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Henry, August, Edward and Bennie; and two sisters, Ottillia Gehnert and Lucille Opp.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Zach Bey officiating.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.

Burial: Lutheran Cemetery, Streeter.
