Elizabeth “Lizzie” Guthmiller, 89, Carrington, N.D., formerly Pettibone, N.D.
Elizabeth “Lizzie” Guthmiller, 89, Carrington, N.D., formerly Pettibone, N.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
Elizabeth Schmidt was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Frettim Township, northwest of Pettibone, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Kassman) Schmidt. She attended rural country schools. She married John Guthmiller on June 6, 1940, at Pettibone. She worked at the Red Owl and Super Valu stores in Pettibone. She owned and operated the Pettibone Café for many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading and dancing.
She is survived by two sons, Vernon (Betty), Carrington, and Gary (Sharon), Beulah, N.D.; a daughter, Marion (Reinhold) Grueble, Pettibone; two brothers, Harry, Pettibone, and Reinhold (Verla), Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Violet Gruebele, Pettibone; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Larry and Norman; her parents; a brother, Reuben; and three sisters, Katherine, Frieda and Martha.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, with the Rev. Richard Biberdorf officiating.
Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Petersville Cemetery, Pettibone.
