John Harold Otto passed away on April 18, 2011 in Erie, ND at the age of 72.
John was born on August 26, 1938 to Christian and Olga (Retzer) Otto at their farm near Chaseley, ND. He was the thirteenth of fifteen children.
He attended country school and helped with chores around the farm. On June 20, 1965 he was joined in marriage to Sharon Kleinsasser in Bowdon, ND.
John continued to work for area farmers in Chaseley, Tappen, Erie, and Arthur, until his retirement a few years ago.
His interests centered on hard work, family, friends, and church. He was an active member of St. John’s in Arthur; serving on the church council, ushering, singing in the community choir, teaching vacation Bible School, and Sunday School Superintendent. Somehow he found time for yard work, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was also an avid card player, and never turned down a family board game. He played the guitar, accordion, piano, and autoharp to inspire family sing-a-longs. He was always willing to give of his time and talents to those he met.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; sons, Guy, Minneapolis, MN, Paul (special friend, Nikki Moore), Buffalo, ND; daughters, Denise (Charles) Franks, Oak Grove, MN, Mary Otto, Fargo, ND, Joan (Nathan) Carey, Page, ND; grandsons, Kruse Otto, Grand Forks, ND, Tyler Otto and Cooper Otto, both Fargo, ND, Willie D. Carey, Page, ND; brothers, Richard (Margaret) Otto, Bowdon, ND, Robert Otto, Middletown, ID; sisters, Leona (Rodney) Magnuson, Carrington, ND, Linda Schick, Bismarck, ND, Phyllis Hiebert, Newport, WA; sister-in-law, Luella Otto, Mandan, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral: Saturday, April 23, 2 p.m. @ St. John Lutheran Church, Arthur, ND
