Garth C. White
Garth C. White, 96, formerly Jamestown, ND
Born in Fordville, ND August 19, 1914, Garth White passed away July 24, 2011 at the age of 96. He grew up on a farm near Park River, ND and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1936 with an Accounting/Business degree. The first 14 years of his career were spent in Grand Forks, ND and included his involvement with the initial expansion and distribution of electric power to the surrounding rural areas. In 1950, he moved his family to Jamestown, ND where he was the Vice President of Business Affairs at Jamestown College, North Dakota’s only private college. While there, he was an active member of Kiwanis, the Masons, and the Presbyterian Church. After 15 years in Jamestown, he and his wife relocated to St. Paul, MN where he served as the Facilities Manager at Macalester College. While in St. Paul, he was especially proud to have served as Governor of the Kiwanis Minnesota-Dakotas District.
After 20 years at Macalester, Garth retired in 1976. He and Milada moved to Voyager Village, a new land development near Danbury, WI. They had a house built on their heavily-wooded lot and spent the next 25 years there. Garth served as the Village’s Golf Course Ranger the entire time. He and Milada were charter members of the Lakeside Lutheran Church, and they also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary while living in Wisconsin.
Garth and Milada moved to Santa Clarita, CA in 2001 and purchased their home in Friendly Valley to be near the families of their two sons. They became members of the Friendly Valley Methodist Church. Garth was also a member of the Friendly Valley Masonic Lodge and played on the resident golf course. During this ten year period, he remained an avid card-player with other residents as well as his family.
Garth was a kind, wonderful man and the respected patriarch of the White Family.
As he had always wished, he passed away peacefully.
Garth is survived by Milada, his wife of 74 years, a son Lew (Verlyn) White, and a son Paul (Faye) White, all living in Santa Clarita. His daughter Joann
(Orall) Johnson lives in Ramsey, MN, and his daughter Jean Franklin lives in San Diego, CA. He is also survived by two sisters (Doris and Coral), ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a set of new-born twin great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Lila White, his brother Wendell White, and his grandson Troy Johnson.
