Janet graduated from Grafton High School, Grafton, ND in 1961 and received an AA degree in Education from Valley City State University, Valley City, ND in 1963. She married Robert John Schanilec in Grafton, ND in June 1963, and they resided together with their family, in Grafton, Valley City, Dickinson and finally in 1971, in Jamestown, ND until his death in August 1994. Janet continued to live in Jamestown and was employed at Western Gear (now Goodrich Cargo Systems) in Jamestown as a Certified Purchasing Manager until she retired in 2002. She was an avid reader, enjoyed golf and loved the new adventures that marrying Vern Schulze of Reno, Nevada in March of 2002 brought to her. She is survived by her husband, Vern, her four children: Melinda (Nolan) Orr, Pierre, South Dakota; Melissa (Steven) Bakken, Breckenridge, Minnesota; Robert (Lisa) Schanilec, Hickory, North Carolina and Jennifer (Jon) White, Mooresville, North Carolina; and stepson, Michael (Cherie) Schulze, Reno. She was preceded in death by her father, her first husband, her sister, Valerie (Steven) Stark, and step-father, Dwight Douglass.
She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
We particularly want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Mary’s Medical Center, Alpine Hematology-Oncology, and Stanford University Cancer Center that showed such concern for Janet’s health.
Cremation Services will be coordinated by Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial of Reno. A memorial service for Janet will be held in the spring of 2012 in Jamestown, ND, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jamestown, ND.
