Martha Greenwood Spaans

Mrs. Martha Greenwood Spaans, age 75, passed away on Jan. 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by son, Attie, on Aug. 26, 1983. Martha is survived by husband, Ed; daughters, Gretchen (Bob) Biggs and Amy (Scott) Brooks; grandchildren, Ruby Biggs, and Alex and Abby Brooks. Martha was the 2nd of 4 children born to Raymond and Anabelle (Brockman) Greenwood.

Mrs. Martha Greenwood Spaans, age 75, passed away on Jan. 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by son, Attie, on Aug. 26, 1983. Martha is survived by husband, Ed; daughters, Gretchen (Bob) Biggs and Amy (Scott) Brooks; grandchildren, Ruby Biggs, and Alex and Abby Brooks. Martha was the 2nd of 4 children born to Raymond and Anabelle (Brockman) Greenwood. Martha grew up in Jamestown, ND. After high school, Martha entered the community of Sisters of Saint Joseph of Condolet in St. Paul where she was known as Sister David. Martha was a teacher of English as a Second Language and was well known and loved by the Vietnamese community as Teacher Martha. Martha served in various capacities on the Vietnamese Freedom Flight Council. Martha was an accomplished silk screen artist. Martha and Ed loved to travel and visited Russia, Turkey, and Greece. During the last four years her activities were more and more limited due to dementia. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the wonderful nurses at Clark on Keller Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone SE, 49506 with The Rev. Leonard Sudlik, Presider. Memorial contributions to the Clark Benevolent Fund, 1551 Franklin, 49506 are suggested in lieu of flowers. The family will greet relatives and friends Thursday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to mass at the church on Friday. The family is being served by: Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service.
