Katherine Theisen was born August 19, 1926 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Frank and Helen (Stone) Theisen. She attended her first twelve years of school in Sioux Falls. Katherine then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, graduating with a Social Work degree in 1948. She married Gilbert F. Petersen on November 23, 1952, in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Jamestown in 1954. Katherine was a member of First Congregational U.C.C. in Jamestown. She worked at Central Dakota Village Nursing Home as a social worker from 1969-1985. Katherine worked for Alpha Opportunities until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member of Red Hats Society & PEO. She did volunteer work for the Humane Society, Meals on Wheels and Jamestown Hospital. Katherine was quite a social bug, always sharing a joke or two. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominos and other games. Katherine had a strong love for her cats.
She is survived by one son, Phred (L.E.) Petersen, Australia; one daughter, Connie (Kent) Lettenmaier, Sanborn, ND; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gilbert and son, Donald.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with Pastor Martin Nussbaum officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Eddy Funeral Home
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Salvation Army or Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice.
