Lawrence Walter Loose, 82, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND. He had been in the nursing home for three months since starting to lose the battle with Parkinson’s disease. Lawrence was born on July 24, 1929 at Woodworth, North Dakota where he lived for the next seventy-five years. He was the son of Gustav and Helena Muenchow Loose.
Lawrence started raising cattle at age sixteen, and took over the farm in 1951 when his father died. Lawrence raised grain, and Polled Hereford cattle, later switching to Simmental cattle.
Lawrence attended school and church in Woodworth. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as an Elder, Trustee and Church Treasurer for many years.
Lawrence loved sports, particularly baseball, and the Boston Red Sox. He was active with Woodworth’s amateur baseball team. He served as the official scorekeeper. He was the treasurer of the Woodworth Athletic Association from about 1949 until it disbanded in the 1990’s. Lawrence started playing horseshoes when he was sixty. He threw horseshoes as long as his health allowed. He was a member of the James River Horseshoe Club.
Lawrence also loved music. He liked to listen to music, sing bass, and he enjoyed singing with his sisters.
Lawrence married Ardelle Ziesch in a country church north of Pettibone, North Dakota on September 29, 1956. They raised their family and farmed together until 1994 when they retired. Lawrence and Ardelle moved to Jamestown in 2005.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 55 years; two daughters, Stephanie (husband John Avery) Loose, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Jane (Leon) Westerhausen of Ypsilanti, ND; one son, Larry (Bonny) of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Peter (Jennifer) Loose-Montano of Bullhead City, AZ, Daine (Randy) Flieth, Levi (Danielle) Westerhausen, and Mariah Westerhausen all of Jamestown; five great-grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Loose-Montano, and Cullen, Emma Jane and Andre Flieth; one sister Myrna (John) Kourajian of St. Cloud, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, twins, Elwood and Glen in infancy, and Lowell and two sisters, Maureen Garrett and Lois Kapfer.
Funeral Service – 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodworth, ND, with Rev. Tom Eckstein officiating.
Visitation – 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, James-town. Family will receive guests from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel.
Interment – Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, North Dakota.
