Duane Thoreson, 86, of New Effington, SD, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, JoElle & Rick Thomas, Buchanan, ND, under Jamestown Hospice care.

Duane Thoreson, 86, of New Effington, SD, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, JoElle & Rick Thomas, Buchanan, ND, under Jamestown Hospice care.

Duane Jerome Thoreson was born February 23, 1926 on the family farm at Lein Township, Roberts County, South Dakota and continued to live and farm there for 71 years. Duane graduated from New Effington High School and served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper. He was united in marriage to Mavis Olson on June 15, 1952. Duane was an avid hunter and horseman who shared his love of horses with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Duane was a life time member of Faith Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, Disable American Veterans, and the Masonic Temple. He served on the New Effington School Board, the elevator board, and the township board.

Duane and Mavis had four children, JoElle (Rick) Thomas, Buchanan, Kim, Homer, AK, and Kent (Robin), New Effington; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Kay; his parents, George and Myrtle Thoreson; and one sister, Jean Aga.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012 Faith Lutheran Church, New Effington, SD.

Visitation: None scheduled. Arrangements by the Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Burial: New Effington Community Cemetery, New Effington, SD.
