Paul Thomas Heasley, Sr., 84, of Jud, ND, died peacefully Friday, April 27, 2012, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown, ND, due to health complications four months after heart surgery.
Paul was born March 9, 1928, on the farmstead occupied at that time by his parents Fay and Selma (Viergutz ) Heasley, in Lenton township, Stutsman County of North Dakota. He began farming part-time with his father at the age of 12. He attended and graduated 8th grade at Cusator Township school. After which he became a full time farmer, farming along with his father until about 1960.
He married Irene Gertrude Schauer, on July 16, 1948, at Moorhead, Minnesota. After their marriage, they moved to their own farmstead and lifetime home in Lenton township of Stutsman County.
In the 60’s Paul ran “Paul Heasley Excavating” for several years, digging in several basements, water and sewer lines in the Mill Hill area of Jamestown and on several rural farmsteads in southern Stutsman County. In the 70’s and 80’s he became a part-time semi truck driver owning “Heasley Trucking”, which commercially hauled small grain crops to elevators in neighboring states.
He and Irene also continued operating their own farm until their retirement in 1993, and continued to live there the rest of their lives. His wife Irene passed away on August 4, 1999 after they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Paul was confirmed and baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND. Later attended and was baptized at First Assembly of God Church in Jamestown, ND. And in more recent years enjoyed the ministry of the McCoy Radio Church On The Air programming with Rev. Tahran.
His hobbies included spending time with his family, driving to eat out and visiting with friends and family he would meet in Jamestown. He enjoyed working on old auto’s to get them running again, and he was very inventive “do-it-yourselfer” all his life, especially with iron, often creating/welding helpful devices to aid him in his farming operation. His favorite recent pastime was watching Daniel O’Donnel musical DVD’s.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (David) Deutscher, Medina, ND; Brenda Heasley, Jamestown, ND; one son, Paul (Janice) Heasley, Jamestown, ND; two sisters, Pearl Hendrix and Helen Fidge, both Bismarck, ND ; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces and nephews.
