Esther Schmidt

Esther Schmidt, 87, Medina, ND, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at her home. Esther Wallbaum was born on November 10, 1924, the only child of Arthur and Emelia (Hins) Wallbaum, at their farm near Medina, ND. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from 8th grade at St. Paul Township School.

Esther Schmidt, 87, Medina, ND, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at her home.

Esther Wallbaum was born on November 10, 1924, the only child of Arthur and Emelia (Hins) Wallbaum, at their farm near Medina, ND. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from 8th grade at St. Paul Township School. She worked with her parents on their farm until her marriage to Otto Schmidt on October 24, 1946 at their home. They moved to Otto's parent's farm, where they farmed until they retired in 1988. They moved back to Esther's family home, where she currently lived.

Esther was a member of the Medina Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for 36 years. She worked in the fields from a young age and enjoyed her life on the farm. She had a knack for carpentry work and played the piano, accordion and guitar. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, writing, reading her Bible, music, general housekeeping and raising her children.

Esther is survived by her two sons, Rev. Dr. Vergil (Raychel) Schmidt, San Antonio, TX and Errol Schmidt (special friend, Melinda Kramlich), Medina; six grandchildren, Tally Jo Guthmiller, Tanner Schmidt, Tonya Grabinger, Chris Grabinger, Brandon Grabinger and Charis Schmidt; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; uncles and aunts.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Medina American Legion Hall.

Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, ND.
