Duane L. Spitzer

Duane L. Spitzer, 64, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND after a brief battle with cancer. Duane Spitzer was born October 5, 1947 in Carrington, ND, the son of Adolf and Evelyn (Bower) Spitzer. He graduated from Kensal High School in 1965 and enlisted in the US Army in 1966, serving with the military police during the Vietnam conflict.

Duane L. Spitzer, 64, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND after a brief battle with cancer.

Duane Spitzer was born October 5, 1947 in Carrington, ND, the son of Adolf and Evelyn (Bower) Spitzer. He graduated from Kensal High School in 1965 and enlisted in the US Army in 1966, serving with the military police during the Vietnam conflict. Duane was discharged in 1968 and attended Lake Regional Junior College in Devils Lake, ND. He married Kathy Witzig on June 18, 1971 in Jamestown. They lived in Kensal for 10 years and he worked for the United Parcel Service. They moved to Jamestown where their home has been since and he retired in 2002. He considered First Baptist Church as his church family.

Duane enjoyed helping his nephew farm the family fields, woodworking, road trips, and occasionally visiting a casino. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be remembered by his family and friends as an honest, humble, trustworthy, reliable, hard-working, good man with a keen sense of humor.

Duane is survived by his wife, Kathy, Jamestown; two sons, Travis Spitzer, Jamestown, and Cory (Autumn Hofland) Spitzer, Jamestown; two grandchildren, Colton and Finlee; two brothers, Clarence (Delores) Spitzer, Carrington, ND and Lawrence Spitzer, Kensal, ND; one sister, Shirley (Kenneth) Cereghino, Wilsonville, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine Florhaug; sister-in-law Shirley Spitzer; and great nephew, Tyson Florhaug.

Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
