William Charles “Chuck” Henke, of Nantucket, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after complications from a heart attack. He was 61.
William Charles “Chuck” Henke, of Nantucket, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after complications from a heart attack. He was 61.
Mr. Henke was born Sept. 23, 1950 in Dickinson, N.D., the son of Irving and Alice Henke. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 to see the world and was stationed on Nantucket. Upon his honorable discharge he stayed on Nantucket, working as a painter for several years and later for Yates Gas until his retirement in 2010.
Mr. Henke was an active member of the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion and could be seen and heard echoing “Taps” at several military services and funerals. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and always had time for his family and friends.
Mr. Henke was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother Bruce and sister-in-law Carol Henke of Jamestown, N.D.; his brother Doug and sister-in-law Deb Henke of Park Rapids, Minn.; his brother Brad and sister-in-law Marie Henke of Nantucket; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in September.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sons of the American Legion Scholarship Fund.
