Sophia Beckman, 88, Jamestown, ND, formerly of the Ypsilanti, ND, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Sophia Schuler was born October 10, 1923 in Goldwin Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Magdelina (Klooz) Schuler. She graduated from Buchanan High School and the New York Hair Academy. On July 1, 1945 Sophia married Harold Beckman in Jamestown. She worked as a beautician for 50 years. She owned her own shop in Ypsilanti, where her daughter, Cheryl, worked with her.
They lived on a farm in the Ypsilanti area and in 1960 they moved into Ypsilanti where they built a new home.
Sophia loved to bake, cook, dance, play cards and she enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.
Sophia is survived by her husband, Harold of 67 years, Jamestown; two daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Anderson, Jamestown and Bonnie Bartsch, Fergus Falls, MN; two sons, Gary (Connie) Beckman and Doug (Margaret) Beckman, both of Jamestown; grandchildren, Troy Anderson, Alicia and Hunter Beckman; and one sister, Bertha Bauer, Lodi, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Punky; five sisters, Lena, Elizabeth, Amelia, Lydia and Emma; and four brothers, Fred, Christ, Edwin and Ted.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Rich Fitzer officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel
Burial: Ypsilanti Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND
