Everett died Tuesday at a hospice facility in Colorado. She was on the Hurricanes’ roster as a goalkeeper from 2007 through 2009.
Within a year of her diagnosis, she was back on the Hurricanes’ practice field and founded the Austen Everett Foundation, which would have athletes spend time with children with cancer and other terminal diseases.
