Alfred Peda, 92, Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Alfred was born August 24, 1920 at Lowry Township, ND to Gustav and Wilhelmina (Fehrle) Peda. He was baptized at New Home Church and confirmed at Woodworth Advent Church. He attended rural school in Wadsworth Township. In his younger years he liked to go ice fishing and trapping mink and muskrats.
Alfred married Elizabeth Koenig November 6, 1941 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. After marriage they farmed in Wadsworth Township until 1957, at which time they moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked at Straitline Trucking and the US Postal Service. After a year and a half they returned to Wadsworth Township to continue farming. In 1962 they moved to Strong Township where they continued to farm and live for 38 years.
Alfred loved the land and sitting on the tractor. Between farming, raising livestock, haying, he helped build the Woodworth Elevator and the new Redeemer Lutheran Church in Woodworth. He was an elder for many years.
They retired from the farm in 1982. From 1984 to 1998 they spent their winters in Arizona. He moved to Remsen, Iowa to be with his wife in September of 2001. He returned to North Dakota after Liz passed away on September 10, 2002.
Alfred is survived by his two daughters, Angie (Jerry) Alvey, Mesa, AZ and Debi (Martin) Ritzman, Casper, WY; five grandchildren, Scott Alvey, Sioux Falls, SD, Dave (Alicia) Alvey, Henderson, NV, Damon (Linda) Alvey, Scotland, SD, Theron (Tiina Scarpelli) Ritzman, Laramie, WY and Daniele Ritzman, Casper, WY; ; nine great-grandchildren, Chris Alvey (fiancée, Jen), Zack Alvey, Mandy Alvey, Ashley Alvey, Amber Alvey, Zayne Ritzman, Zana Nice, Zaylin Nice and Zander Nice; one great-great grandchild, Noella Sneed Alvey; one sister, Wanda Lynch, Texas and one sister-in-law, Elda Koenig, Fargo, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; parents; five brothers; four sisters; two brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, North Dakota
