Russell “Jim” Schmoker, 92, of Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his home.

Russell “Jim” Schmoker, 92, of Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his home.

Russell J. Schmoker was born August 25, 1920, in Dickey, ND, the son of Fred and Ellen (Foran) Schmoker. He graduated from Dickey High School in 1938 and attended Mayville State for two years. Jim joined the National Guard in February 1941 and served with the 164th Infantry during WWII in Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. He was discharged in September 1945 and returned to Dickey and worked for Northern Pacific, later Burlington Northern Railroad. Jim married Aurelia “Peggy” Arthur on June 10, 1947 in Dickey. They made their home in Dickey until 1956, when they moved to a farm south of Dickey. He enjoyed raising pheasants, peacocks, and other exotic birds. Jim retired from the railroad after 30 years and they moved to Jamestown in the last few years.

He was an avid sportsman, a member of Grand Rapids Country Club, Dickey Assumption Church, and later St. James Basilica.

Jim is survived by his wife, Aurelia “Peggy” Schmoker, Jamestown; two sons, Craig Schmoker, Jamestown and Douglas Schmoker, Littleton, CO; three daughters, Candace (Harlan) Fuglesten, Fargo, Cathy (Eugene) Breker, Fargo, and Lisa (Kevin) Axtman, Bismarck, ND; nine grandchildren, Shelby Breker, Dane Breker, Michael Breker, Ashley Breker, Kyle Fuglesten, Kari Fuglesten, Jayme Fuglesten, Ben Axtman and Sami Axtman; and four great grandchildren, Cole Fuglesten, Eben Breker, Bode Breker, and Logan Breker; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters.

Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7;00 p.m., Sun day, September 16, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Dickey Cemetery, Dickey, ND.
