Marvin Max Borchert, 94, of Jamestown, ND died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown. Marvin was born June 3, 1918 in Cooperstown, ND, the son of Frank and Elsie (Tetzloff) Borchert.

Marvin Max Borchert, 94, of Jamestown, ND died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Marvin was born June 3, 1918 in Cooperstown, ND, the son of Frank and Elsie (Tetzloff) Borchert. He grew up on the family farm near Cooperstown and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1936. While helping on the family farm, Marvin also worked as a general farm hand for a neighboring farmer and always had an interest in farming. He also worked at the local gas station, Moser’s. In October, 1941 he proudly joined the Military as a Combat Infantry Expert and served in both the Eastern Mandates and Central Pacific Campaigns where he earned two battle stars, five overseas service bars and four discharge emblems. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Military in May of 1945.He was a proud veteran until the day he died.

He married Dorothy Rickford on June 2, 1946 in Cooperstown, and continued working as general farm laborer until they moved with their two children to Hawthorne, CA in 1956. In Hawthorne, Marvin worked at the elementary school as a janitor. In 1972, they moved to Jamestown, ND where he continued working as a janitor in the high school until he retired.

Marvin was an active VFW member, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and took a very active role in the lives of his four grandchildren. He also helped his daughter and son-in-law on their family farm, driving truck during harvest and other necessary duties. Throughout his life, including his time at Ave Maria, Marvin enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle.

Marvin will be remembered and honored by a son Lyle Borchert, Jamestown; a daughter Valorie Bear, Jamestown; four grandchildren, Curtis (Jill) Bear, Andrew (Jamie) Bear, Dona (Richard) Schock, and Joseph (Lenae) Bear; and five great grandchildren, Bailey and Brianna Schock, Jacie Bear, and Maxwell and Kora Bear, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and four siblings.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Lucinda Lien officiating

Visitation: 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Ave Maria Village and one hour before the funeral service at the church

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 4, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Burial: Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, ND
