Allen Vollmer, 70, of Drake, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.
Allen Vollmer, son of Wilbert and Ida (Helm) Vollmer, was born October 31, 1942 at Rugby. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Drake and received his early education in a nearby country school. He later attended Drake High School, graduating in 1960.
Allen lived his entire life on the Vollmer family farm where he began working with his father at an early age and later purchased the farm in 1969. On July 10, 1971 he was married to Della Krein in Jamestown. He farmed, raised dairy cattle for a time and later raised beef cattle, until his retirement from farming in 2004. In addition to farming, Allen worked at the local Ford dealership in Drake for several years and more recently had worked for Lien Auction and Realty of Harvey.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Drake where he was a trustee. He also served on the Strege Township Board for 24 years and was chairman for 20 of those years.
Allen is survived by his wife of 41 years, Della; son, Travis of Drake; daughter Tiffany (Daniel) DeBilt of West Fargo; 2 very special grandchildren who loved their Papa Al, Kaitlyn and Savannah DeBilt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; along with some special in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Drake
Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Drake
Visitation: Wednesday, from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake
