James Otto

James E. Otto, 78, Jamestown, formerly of Lakewood Park, Devils Lake, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the DaWise-Perry Funeral Chapel, Mandan, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

James E. Otto, 78, Jamestown, formerly of Lakewood Park, Devils Lake, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the DaWise-Perry Funeral Chapel, Mandan, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

James was born July 31, 1934 at Steele, North Dakota, to Andrew and Hilda (Shirley) Otto. He was raised and educated in Jamestown. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for the city of El Paso, TX in engineering until returning to North Dakota. On May 23, 1960 he married Lillian Ritz. He attended the Manpower Program for Engineering in Devils Lake, and worked as a project manager for the North Dakota Highway Department until his retirement in 1995.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and a Lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughter, Valeree King (Mark Winn), Washburn; sons, James (Opal) King, Orange Park, FL; Andrew James (Paula) Otto, Brighton, CO; sisters, Jean Braunberger, Carol (Art) Gums, all of Casper, WY; Beverly Bergson, Jamestown, ND; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marilyn Zahn; sister, Patricia Ann Otto; and brother-in-law, Irvin Braunberger.
