During World War II he enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. Serving as Motor Machinist First Class from 1943- 46, he saw action in the South Pacific while assigned to Patrol Craft Escort Rescue #852.
After his discharge from the Navy, Bob moved to Seattle where he met and married Barbara Aipperspach. Soon after that he began his almost 30 year career as an electrician with Seattle City Light.
When it came time for retirement in 1984, Bob and Barb looked fondly to Barbara’s hometown of Jamestown, ND. They had many friends and relatives in Jamestown and enjoyed the caring culture found here.
During his early retirement years Bob volunteered for several years with Meals on Wheels delivering meals weekly.
He was active in the Jamestown Sertoma being awarded Sertoman of the year in 1989. Bob went on to serve as their president in 1990 - 1991.
