Leah M. Berger, 57, of Center, North Dakota, died, Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at St Paul Lutheran Church, Center, North Dakota. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Center. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Center Community Cemetery, Center, North Dakota.
Leah was born July 21, 1955 in Jamestown, ND to Iris (Chadduck) and Carl Hopland. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1973 and from Valley City State College in 1977. She taught school in Sheyenne, ND the next year.
Rod and Leah were married August 5th, 1978 in Jamestown. They resided in Valley City until August, 1979 when they moved to Center. They welcomed their son Dan in 1980 and their daughter Sara came into their lives in 1984. Her children meant the world to her and were her greatest pride and joy. Leah began teaching kindergarten in Stanton the fall of 1983. She continued teaching in Stanton until 2007 when she transferred to Center. There she continued to teach until she resigned because of her health in 2012.
Leah is survived by her soul mate, Rod and her beautiful children, Dan and Sara, both of Dickinson.
She is also survived by 2 brothers: Mark Hopland and Mel (Jil) Hopland both from MN, 1 sister: Lorie (Jim) Wilcox, NC, 1 half-brother: Clarence (Peggy) Hopland, NM, and 1 half-sister: Janice (Gary) Parfit, Idaho. Her mother-in-law: Helen Berger, Center, 1 sister-in-law: Mariann (Kenny) Brandt, Center, and 1 brother-in-law: Tim (Dorene) Berger, WI. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews: T.J. and Ben Hopland, MN; Kelly (David) Bergsrud, Emily and Mackenzie, MN; Chris (Lisa) Hopland, Alex and Jessi, GA; Matthew (Helene) Parfit, CA; Maria (Jon) Pederson, Markus and Grace, MN; Duane Hopland, NM; Dalen Hopland, Nayson and Payton, NM; Melinda (Crawford) Adams, UT; Kim Berger, Carter Samir, WI; Mitch Berger, WI; and Amanda Schafer, Center.
Leah was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law, John Berger, and her nephew, Jason Hopland.
