Rose Rau, 86, Jamestown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Rose Schumacher was born Dec. 24, 1921, on the family farm near Tappen, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Eva (Dockter) Schumacher.

Rose Schumacher was born Dec. 24, 1921, on the family farm near Tappen, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Eva (Dockter) Schumacher. She grew up in the area and attended the rural school. She worked on the family farm. She married Edwin Rau on May 31, 1940, in Napoleon, N.D. They lived on the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D. They moved into Streeter in 1950 where she worked for the Creamery and Strehle Grocery. They also owned and operated the Café/Recreation Hall and a truck line. They then moved to Jamestown where she worked at the Parkway Café, Mac’s Restaurant and Cut Low Grocery. They moved to Fargo, N.D., and she worked for Leeby’s Grocery for a short time. They also had a band, Polkateers/Shades of Blue, and played many dances in the area. She played the electric organ. When they moved back to Jamestown they played at clubs and for senior citizens. Later she babysat for children in her home. They moved to Rock of Ages, Jamestown, in March 2006. She entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in March 2007. He died Aug. 13, 2007. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed playing the organ.
She is survived by a son, Donald, Jamestown; a daughter, Arlene (Al) Weidner, Halliday, N.D.; a brother, Marvin (Janice), Clarksville, Iowa; a sister, Emma Were, Bismarck, N.D.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son-in-law, George; five sisters; and five brothers.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, in the spring.
