Evelyn Gomke, 82, Jamestown, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Evelyn Fern Schmuhl was born Dec. 7, 1926, on a farm northwest of Eldridge, N.D., the daughter of Edward and Ida (Vargason) Schmuhl. She received her elementary education in rural schools near Eldridge. She helped her parents on the farm. She married William Gomke on Dec. 2, 1955, in Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown. She enjoyed playing cards and other games, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by a daughter, Marian (Jay) Van Eaton, Jamestown; a brother, Edwin (Mildred), Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters, Elaine, Edna and Esther.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Rich Fitzer officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, in the spring.
