Kent John

Kent Florian John, 76, Long Prairie, Minn., formerly of Jamestown, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital, Long Prairie.

Mr. John was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Hartford Township, Todd County, Minnesota, the son of John F. and Mildred (Barrett) John. He graduated from Browerville High School, Browerville, Minn., and attended Jamestown College and the Gail Institute, Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1985. He married Elaine Delsing on Nov. 22, 1958, in Wayzata, Minn. He worked for Northern Pacific/Burlington Railroad for 41 years as a dispatcher. He retired in 1995. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Long Prairie. He enjoyed farming, restoring old tractors, carpentry and listening to polka music.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Judy (Mike) Schultz, Long Prairie; a son, Patrick (Kaye), Jamestown; a sister, Jeanette (Lyle) Lemm, Billings, Mont.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John E. and David; his parents; and a brother, Jean.
