Karl Gumke, 95, Gackle, N.D.

Karl Gumke, 95, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Mandan Care Center, Mandan, N.D.

Mr. Gumke was born Oct. 23, 1913, at Gackle, the son of John M. and Carolina (Knodel) Gumke. He received his elementary education at the local rural school and helped on the family farm. He married Alice Koenig on May 10, 1938, at LaMoure, N.D. They lived and farmed 11 miles southeast of Gackle. They retired in 1982 and moved into Gackle. She died in 2005. He continued to live in Gackle until 2009, when he entered the Mandan Care Center. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and was the Gutschmidt Township treasurer for 33 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Unrath, Bismarck, N.D.; a son, Robert (Nancy), Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, his parents and two sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. Russ Pollock officiating.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.

Burial: Gackle Cemetery, Gackle.
