Dean McNatton

Dean C. McNatton, 65

Dean C. McNatton, 65, was welcomed into heaven on June 22, 2009. He died at home after a brave two year battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at McCabe United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Art Scanson officiating.

There will be an informal gathering at McCabe Methodist Church in Bismarck on Thursday, June 25, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Dean was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 26, 1944 to Russell Ira McNatton and Marion Harriet (Smith) McNatton. He was raised in northwestern MN by stepfather Henry O. Johnson and mother Marion H. Johnson.

He attended elementary school in Halma, MN and graduated from high school in Karlstad, MN. After attending college in Thief River Falls, he established a lifelong career in the architectural and engineering fields until his retirement from Interstate Engineering in 2006. He was a true perfectionist who took tremendous pride in his profession. He was married to Barbara Joppru in 1965 and became proud parents of a son, Shane Terry McNatton in 1971.

In April of 1987, he married Cheryl (Jacobs) McNatton and together they raised her two sons, Jeremy and Casey Jacobs. He dedicated himself to his work, which he loved, but his family and friends were most important to him. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, auto racing, doodle bugs, mechanics, and tinkering. “Dean the Tool Man McNatton” could fix anything including a broken heart. Having a mischievous nature, Dean truly enjoyed life.

He was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, Dakota Buggers, Central Dakota HOG Chapter, National Council of Architectural Registration, Certified Swimming Pool Operators, National Swimming Pool Foundation, and World Water Park Association.

He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, his son Shane, of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeremy (Amy) Jacobs, of Houston, TX, Casey Jacobs, of Willow, AK, four granddaughters, brother, Duane McNatton, of St. Paul, MN, sister, Bonnie Carlson, of Moorhead, MN, stepsister Lola (Loren) Germundson, of Karlstad, MN, sister-in-law, Doris Johnson, of Fargo, ND, brother-in-law, Wayne (Carol) Carlson, of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by Cheryl’s family; Don and Fran Laschkewitsch, of Bismarck, ND, Jack and Carolyn Laschkewitsch, of Midland, TX, George and DeLoris Spengler, of Minot, ND, Bob and Carol Simmers, of Bismarck and two special little boys, Austin and Harrison who called Dean “Papa”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepbrothers, Lyndon and Marvin Johnson.

A large family of relatives and friends will deeply miss Dean Clark McNatton.
