John Vondergeest
John Vondergeest, formerly of Jamestown, passed away on December 25th, 2008, in Renton, Washington. The majority of his cremated remains rest at Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington State. John was born on November 2nd of 1939, the son of Hans and Irene Vondergeest.
John Vondergeest, formerly of Jamestown, passed away on December 25th, 2008, in Renton, Washington. The majority of his cremated remains rest at Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington State. John was born on November 2nd of 1939, the son of Hans and Irene Vondergeest. He was raised in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown high school in 1957. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served proudly until his retirement in November of 1979.
Though his 20-year naval career took him and his family all over the United States, he always considered Jamestown his home. In accordance with his wishes, some of his ashes will be scattered over North Dakota.
John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carole, daughters Lynn Evans (Greg), Whitney Holt (Steve) and son Eric John (Jennifer) in addition to 6 grandchildren; His sisters Dora Larson and Arlene Moen of North Dakota and his brother Bruce Vondergeest of Custer, Washington.
Please join his family and friends in a celebration of John’s life. A memorial service in his honor will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on June 30th at 11:00 AM.
