Born December 28, 1919, in Beach, N.D., to Joseph and Sarah Ramstad, Marv Ramstad was a 1936 graduate of Beach High School and attended Pacific Lutheran University, where he lettered in football. Marv received his Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from the University of Washington in 1943. Marv earned his way through both universities by mining gold in Alaska with his brothers. A great American patriot, Marv served as an Ensign, in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, when he married the love of his life, Della Mae Fode Ramstad. Following the war, Marv and Della Mae lived in Jamestown, N.D., where he worked as President and CEO of Midwest Motors until his retirement in 1984. Marv was also very active in civic and business organizations including the National Automobile Dealers Association, Chrysler Corporation National Advertising Council, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, B.P.O.E., Boy Scouts of America and Plymouth Lions. Marv was also a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown. Marv was actively involved in the political campaigns of his son, former Congressman Jim Ramstad, and daughter, Judge Sheryl Ramstad of the Minnesota Tax Court. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Della Mae; parents, Joseph and Sarah Ramstad; and three brothers and a sister. Survived by son, Jim Ramstad (Kathryn); daughter, Sheryl Ramstad (Lee Larson); grandchildren, Sarah, Charlie, Kristina, Christen and Karl; brother, A. William Ramstad (Winifred); and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 11 AM at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata and burial will take place at 6:30 PM at Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, N.D. Visitation Monday, July 6 from 5-8 PM at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata. Memorials preferred to the Marvin J. Ramstad Scholarship Fund at Pacific Lutheran University.
