Ferdinand Wiest, 87, Wishek, N.D.

Ferdinand Wiest, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Mr. Wiest was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Wishek, the son of Emil P. and Marie (Thurn) Wiest. He attended grade school in the rural Wishek area. He married Edna Sayler on Nov. 9, 1947, at St. James Lutheran Church. They farmed southwest of Wishek. In 1977 they moved into Wishek. He entered the Wishek Home for the Aged on May 28, 2009. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wishek, and the janitor of the church for 24 years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Verna Fish, Aberdeen, S.D., and Sheila Wiest, Jamestown; one brother, Eugene, Lake View, Ariz.; a sister, Luella Fetzer, Layafette, Calif.; a daughter in-law, Wilma Wiest, Wishek; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stanley; two sisters, Ruth and Ada; and two brothers, Helmond and Alvin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, United Methodist Church, Wishek.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Burial: Kassel Reform Cemetery, rural Wishek.
