The James River Valley Library System Library Board hired a development director to raise funds for a new library building. Bill Kennedy was hired on a 40-hour-a-week contract for $34 an hour. His wages will be paid with money the library already had set aside.

Fundraising plans for a possible new library continued at Monday’s meeting of the James River Library System Library Board. “This is like a three-tiered chess game — in the library, in the community, in the state and outside the state — national,” said Bill Kennedy, development director, who was hired to help raise money for the project. “… I work with all three layers, and it takes patience. There’s a roller coaster, sometimes, with how fundraising works.”

Tim Burchill, CEO of Ave Maria Village, shared at the Aug. 7 Rotary meeting about the new capital campaign, which is about a third of the way to its goal of $1.3 million. Burchill gave some history on the facility, which is celebrating 50 years of caring in the Jamestown community. Ave Maria is owned by Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, a nonprofit corporation out of Valley City, N.D.
