North Dakota voters weighed in on whether the state needed to bolster religious freedom in Tuesday’s statewide election. As of 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, 50 of 426 precincts had released ballot results with 41 percent voting yes and 59 percent voting no.

The retired Army soldier and security consultant told lawmakers Tuesday that church leaders gave him permission to bring a gun to worship after a pastor there was threatened a couple of years ago “from an organization that could really do harm.”

Eight arrested at Keystone pipeline site
Eight people were arrested Monday at a construction site for the Keystone XL oil pipeline in central Oklahoma, including one man who locked himself to a crane-like piece of machinery, authorities said. The two women and six men were arrested on trespassing complaints at the site near the town of Schoolton, Seminole County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Chris Conn said. One woman also was cited for resisting arrest. None of their names has been released.
