The Jamestown branch of AAUW will be focusing on women’s health and their hearts. With heart disease being one of the top causes for early death in women, AAUW is focusing on heart health awareness. At 7 p.m. Thursday, AAUW will hold its February branch meeting at the James River Family YMCA.

Community members and five organizations met this week to discuss the potential for a multi-million-dollar facility for residents of Jamestown. Dan Mollsen, senior vice president and director of finance for the American City Bureau, in West Dundee, Ill., a consulting group, headed the meetings with Jamestown Parks and Recreation, Jamestown Public Schools, James River YMCA and local tennis and gymnastics organizations to discuss the Two Rivers Activity Center.

The 2013 Special Olympics North Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 2 at the James River Family YMCA, 904 Seventh St. NE, on the Jamestown College campus. Last year the Polar Plunges held in Jamestown, Grand Forks, Fargo and Minot raised $47,000, according to Katie Allen, SOND director of special projects.
