Real estate developers will have to pay less upfront to develop property in Jamestown in the future. A change in the ordinance regarding what infrastructure costs can be paid by the city through special assessments passed the City Council Monday by a 3-2 vote. Mayor Katie Andersen and Councilmen Charlie Kourajian and Ramone Gumke approved the change with Councilmen Steve Brubakken and Dan Buchanan dissenting.

There were no injuries following a Monday car crash that caused more than $6,000 in damage, according to the Jamestown Police Department. The crash happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and Eighth Avenue Southwest.

Schnabel Auction Company of Kulm will handle the city of Jamestown’s auction of surplus equipment on July 28. Schnabel had been recommended by Reed Schwartzkopf, city engineer, during the June Public Works Committee meeting but the idea met with resistance from Stutsman County area auctioneers.

The timing of the traffic lights along First Avenue and along 10th Street will come under scrutiny this summer. The Jamestown City Council awarded Midwest Traffic Consulting of Lakeville, Minn. a contract for $21,635 to study the downtown traffic patterns during its regular meeting Monday. “The intent is an analysis of the L-shaped area of 10th and First to develop timing systems for the traffic lights,” said Reed Schwartzkopf, city engineer.
