Struggling on ‘D’ Concordia spoils home opener
By trade, Shawn Frank is a defensive coach. That makes the Jimmies’ struggling start on that side of the ball particularly frustrating for the first-year head coach.

Unique start: Jimmies play another ‘opener’
As unique starts to the season go, the Jimmies may top the list of any college football team at any level. When Jamestown College plays at Wisconsin-Stout today at 1 p.m., it will be the third team playing its season opener against the Jimmies (0-2). Not only that, it’s the third different style of offense JC will see and the third straight quality team from a big-time conference.

Coaches keep focus on the field
The Paint Bucket is a valued trinket for the winner of today’s Jimmie/Viking game at Rollie Greeno Field. It will be hoisted near midfield by the winning team when the final horn sounds. The alumni of the victorious school will own bragging rights over the other, although only for 28 days until the two meet again Oct. 22 in Valley City. All the secondary things that go along with the rivalry are important, but not necessarily relevant to either head coach.

Opinion Corner: Days of Our Lives: local edition
One of my good college friends back in the day loved soap operas. I never understood the appeal: bad acting, worse plots, “Why do you watch these?” I asked. “The girls,” he said. “I should have known.” For my money, the only kind of drama more intolerable than real drama is manufactured drama.
