MINOT — Just hours preceding Minot’s 6-0 win over Jamestown on Friday night, the Magicians were still soaking in one of the program’s more aberrant feats.

Minot tops Jays
It’s no surprise that on a cold, rainy night, the better running team prevailed Wednesday at Ernie Gates Field. Minot racked up 387 yards on the ground including 208 and two touchdowns from Brady Lampert, as the Magicians punched their Class AAA playoff ticket with a 19-0 win over Jamestown.

Jays fall to Minot
The second of back-to-back nights out on the soccer field for the Blue Jay boys resulted in the same result at Rotary Field on Friday. Jamestown fell 6-0 at Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday, and fell by that same margin to Minot at home 24 hours later. But Blue Jay coach Colin Rose explained Friday night’s loss to the Magicians was an easier pill to swallow.

Jays drop opener
Minot may be the top team in the West Region. They made a good case Friday night against the Blue Jays. The Magicians won all nine matches in the season-opener for both teams. “They got to be the best team in the West,” JHS coach Pat Mullowney said. “They got everybody back. They’ve played a lot of tennis. They’re real strong.”

Blue Jays roll past Minot
Minot High coach Todd Magnuson could have pointed to his club's affliction at the free throw line in its 61-52 loss to Jamestown on Thursday night. But Magnuson, whose club led the fourth-ranked Blue Jays most of the West Region contest at Magic City Campus, was more interested in tipping his cap then talking about the 39 percent (9-for-23) showing from the charity stripe.

Blue Jays' season comes to an end
Just two outs from a spot in the semifinals on Thursday night, instead the Jamestown High School baseball team was on the way home Friday after a disappointing end to the season at the West Region tournament in Williston. After a crushing, eight-inning loss to Minot in the quarterfinals, Mandan jumped out to a big early lead in a punch to the gut the Blue Jays could not bounce back from as the top-seeded Braves rolled 8-1. The Blue Jays lost to No. 5 seed Minot 14-6 in eight innings on Thursday. They led 4-2 going into the top of the seventh inning in that game.
