The Grinch who stole $350 from a Jamestown family hoping to buy a puppy might be disappointed — the family’s money has been returned and a puppy is expected by the end of January. “I just feel better dealing locally this time,” said Marlene Partlow, who became the victim of an online scam when she tried to purchase a teacup Chihuahua in November.

Man shot by Jamestown police in 2010 files civil lawsuit
A military veteran who was shot by Jamestown police after he came out of his apartment carrying a shotgun claims in federal lawsuit that he never aimed the gun at anyone and police used excessive force. Michael Partlow, who was shot in the head, was hospitalized for about three weeks following the September 2010 shooting. A jury later convicted him on a charge of terrorizing but found he did not attempt to inflict bodily injury.

Drug trial continues here today
The prosecution set out its case Thursday in Southeast District Court against a Jamestown woman accused of delivering a potent prescription painkiller. Lori Ella Houge, born in 1961 and from Jamestown, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, a Class A felony. She is accused of delivering fentanyl patches on or about March 3, 2012, to Tim Partlow. Houge pleaded not guilty.

Jamestown resident Marlene Partlow researched the seller’s business, used PayPal rather than wiring money and even checked the social media presence of the seller before clicked the “Send Payment” button.
