Blue Jays drop finale
A bumpy season for the Jamestown High School girls soccer team came to a close at Rotary Field on Thursday night. Playing host to St. Mary’s, the Saints’ Angie Schumacher put the visiting team up 1-0 just 24 seconds into the match. St. Mary’s went on to send five goals into the net in the first half and defeated Jamestown 6-0. The Blue Jays finished the year without a victory at 0-14-1 overall, but JHS coach Ryan Kleinknecht was proud of his team for not giving up and improving throughout the season.

When talented teams suffer an early-season setback, it can sometimes lead to an awakening of the beast. That’s what first-year Jamestown College head golf coach Dustin Jensen is hoping for, following what can only be described as a shaky start to the 2012 season for the Jimmie men during the Jimmie Open at Jamestown Country Club on Wednesday.

JC earns sweep of Mayville
The Jamestown College softball team hit the 20-win plateau at Mayville State on Tuesday, but the three-win Comets made the Jimmies earn it. The Orange and Black needed to rally for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Comets 7-6 in the opener. But it was all Jimmies in a 14-0 blowout in the nightcap, which moved JC to 20-11 overall on the season.

Frederick takes streets feature
Some drivers have tried for decades to win the Jamestown Speedway Stock Car Stampede. It’s an accomplishment that brings bragging rights, and in some cases brings validation to a career that might not ever feel complete without it. There’ll be some drivers who will never know what it’s like to hoist the trophy at Jamestown’s signature event, and that’s a pretty intense realization for a 23-year-old driver in the dawn of his street stock racing career.

Patriots top Jays
A loss on Thursday night wasn’t what the Blue Jay volleyball team wanted, but the Jays’ best season in recent memory is far from over. Jamestown had a shot at possibly vying for the West Region regular-season title, but they needed to get past the Bismarck Century Patriots for that dream to become a reality.
