Going green tonight: Jamestown Speedway kicks off 2013 season this evening at 7 p.m.
The weatherman has said there’s a 40-percent chance of scattered thunderstorms today. But he also said it’s supposed to be 80 degrees. It’s highly unlikely that both of those ingredients will happen at the same time, and after canceling the first two scheduled nights of the 2013 racing season, officials at Jamestown Speedway are crossing their fingers for the latter.

Kala Bercier
Kala Bercier, 35, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Gackle, ND, died suddenly from a bacterial infection on April 1, 2013 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Kala Schroeder was born on December 13, 1977, in Jamestown, the daughter of Loren and Peggy (Kienzle) Schroeder. She was raised on a farm north of Gackle and graduated from Gackle-Streeter High School in 1996. Kala attended Jamestown College and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She married Dale Bercier in 2000 and they made their home in Jamestown.

Zonta, Girl Scouts form partnership
Zonta of Jamestown met Jan. 9 at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. President Pam Phillips called the meeting to order. Guest speaker for the evening was Sherry Schutt, who spoke on the benefits of practicing yoga on a regular basis. “A body in motion stays in motion” and “Anyone, anywhere, anytime” are her mantras. Schutt led everyone through the movements for “A 10 second vacation at work” stressing the importance of relaxation to achieve higher productivity at work.

Girl Scouts to train volunteers
Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons is creating a Girl Scout camp volunteer delivery program to reignite camping experiences for today’s Scouts. Through a $150,000 grant from the Margaret A. Murdered grandmother honored at funeral
Hundreds of mourners filled a tiny northwest North Dakota church for the funeral of a 64-year-old woman shot to death with three of her grandchildren last week in their New Town home. Martha Johnson was remembered Monday as a civic-minded, churchgoing woman who loved life and her family, said the Rev. Grant Patterson, the family’s pastor.
