Landon Weiser followed with a two-run single as the third-seeded Blue Jays topped sixth-seeded Mandan 4-1 in the opening round of the West Region tournament at Veterans Memorial Ballpark.

Alison Allmer claims to feel no pressure at all when discussing her back-to-back state championships in the 1,600-meter run. Trying to three-peat could be a difficult feat, but the Jamestown High School senior isn’t worried about it, much the same way she wasn’t concerned prior to winning her two titles.

Swept away: Jays take two from Century
Ben Walz provided the kind of timely hitting needed to beat Bismarck Century on Thursday. The offense was mostly stagnant, but it was Walz’ two-run double in the second inning that lifted the Jamestown High School baseball team to a 4-2 victory in West Region action at Jack Brown Stadium. If that wasn’t enough, Walz drilled a two-run single up the middle to lift the Blue Jays 2-1 in the nightcap.

Opinion Corner: Only so much can be done indoors
Practicing a spring sport inside is akin to a kid getting a bike for Christmas. Sure, you can play a little inside, maybe even take it out to the garage where you go in circles, which is fun for about 45 seconds until you realize this is the extent of your enjoyment until the weather warms up and the snow melts.
