Jays pleased to get outside, albeit loss
Win, lose or draw, the satisfaction could be heard in the voices of area spring high school coaches on Friday as teams were finally able to get out and compete on a warm, spring day. The tone of Blue Jay girls tennis coach Pat Mullowney was pretty much that of relief.

Opinion corner: Wrapping up the season
We congratulate the Yale Bulldogs. Yale’s unlikely tournament run was one for the ages. How could the No. 15 seed, the last team to sneak into the tournament, do so much damage? This was a Yale team that entered the tournament just six games over .500, having barely outscored its opponents over the course of the season.

Stocks rise sharply, led by gains in technology
Technology stocks roared back Wednesday, driving the Standard & Poor’s 500 and Dow Jones industrial average to record highs. The industry has lagged the broader market this year, but surged after network communications company Adtran reported earnings that were double what Wall Street analysts expected. That boosted optimism that businesses will increase spending on technology equipment.

Stocks dip after S & P finishes at all-time high
The stock market got off to a slow start in April, edging lower after the Standard and Poor’s 500 index eclipsed its all-time high last week. The main catalyst was a slowdown in U.S. manufacturing growth last month. The decline in the Institute for Supply Management’s benchmark manufacturing index for March was worse than economists had forecast. Stocks started falling shortly after the report came out at 10 a.m. and stayed lower the rest of the day.
