Letter to the editor: Wanzek is working hard to secure road funding
I am responding to a Feb. 6 article about Sen. John Grabinger’s withdrawal of a road funding bill. Let me share my experience over the last two sessions of working these critical infrastructure issues all across our state, particularly in the non-oil impacted areas.

Letter to the editor: Examples abound of crossing the line of morality
I don’t know of any students who have to go without milk at milk break. Not in our school district anyway. Every student gets milk at milk break. Just another typical liberal, feel good, silly milk box collection.

Letter to the editor: North Dakota women deserve the right to choose
I am very concerned that Rep. Bette Grande, R-Fargo, has introduced a personhood bill in our state Legislature and that she, along with others, is strongly campaigning for its passage and for passage of two other related bills.

Letter to the editor: Ongoing issues won’t help grow business here
The original editorial in Friday’s Sun (Feb. 1) is a welcome contribution to what for some time has left many citizens wondering why our county commissioners and City Council are considering withdrawal of Stutsman County and Jamestown membership from the South Central Dakota Regional Council.

Letter to the editor: Rumors’ cast did a great job, meal was excellent too
Kudos to the Jamestown Arts Center’s presentation of “Rumors” by Neil Simon! My husband and I attended the Saturday evening dinner theater. We were extremely pleased with the excellent meal served by Emma Rosie’s Catering and the delightful drama to follow.

Letter to the editor: Legislature should accept funds for fighting cancer
This year in North Dakota, an estimated 3,500 people will be diagnosed with cancer and another 1,280 will die of the disease. People without health coverage are more likely to be diagnosed with cancer at its later stages, when patients are less likely to survive and treatments are more costly.

Letter to the editor: More coverage needed for Special Olympics athletes
In Jamestown and North Dakota we spend a ton of money promoting what we have and the opportunities to succeed here, yet when somebody does succeed because of the people and facilities we have we don’t capitalize on the opportunity.

Letter to the editor: Personhood legislation will put women’s lives at risk
Should a fertilized egg have the same legal status as you? Some of our lawmakers think so. The North Dakota Legislature is considering three bills that would recognize and defend the rights of every human being “at any stage of development.” These extreme “personhood” bills have a narrow intent — to ban abortion — but a broad impact with dangerous consequences for women and families.

Letter to the editor: There should be a way to regulate weapons
Did you know that the word “GUN” is not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution? The Second Amendment reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

Letter to the editor: Bill allows schools to develop their own defense plans
I do not want guns in schools, but the question I ask our opponents is “What’s your answer?” As taxpayers, do we want to spend $75 million per year to put a law officer in every North Dakota school?

Letter to the editor: Community could be hurt by the effects of messages
Messages sent verbally and through actions are important, especially for the well-being of a community. Jamestown is on the edge of a period of a great deal of potential success and growth, which depends heavily on the signals we send to businesses and families who might make Jamestown their home.

Letter to the editor: Having guns in schools not the answer to violence
Filling our schools with guns is absurd. History is full of ways madmen have found ways to carry out their evil acts; bows and arrows, machetes, axes, knives, homemade bombs, hammers, chainsaws, baseball bats, crowbars, burning, etc. Alcohol, illicit street and prescription drugs are destroying more and more lives and families every day.

Letter to the editor: Responders, community did so much for accident victims
I would like to express my deep appreciation for The Jamestown Sun’s coverage of the Dec. 26 traffic accident in Jamestown that involved several members from our parish. We have received overwhelming support in the form of prayers, calls, letters and donations not only from our parishioners, but also from communities such as yours. I am humbled at the outpouring of loves and financial support for all those affected by this tragedy.

Letter to the editor: Study in article is unfair to railroads’ safety records
The article “Trains carrying more oil across U.S.” in the Dec. 29 issue of The Jamestown Sun misleads readers about the vital role railroads are playing to meet the booming need to transport crude oil in North America.

Letter to the editor: Preserve land in N.D. from irresponsible development
As oil/gas facilities build out in North Dakota, further permanent harm to agricultural land must be prevented, while ensuring the land can be returned to an economically productive agricultural status. Undoubtedly thousands of agricultural land acres will be displaced by oil well pads, roads, tank batteries, man camps, permanent waste facilities, etc., in the near future.

Letter to the editor: Solutions about violence not so easy as politicians say
I came across a quote from an unknown author that said, “Timothy McVeigh didn’t use a gun.” But he killed 168 innocent people, 19 of which were children under age 6. He injured more than 680 innocent people and totally destroyed federal property. But you can still buy fertilizer and racing fuel and rent box trucks.
